It's a fact of history that multi-cutural nations are troubled nations. It's also a fact of history and current events that Muslim dominant nations are violent and oppressive (they get much less violent once they've oppressed all the opposition into non-existence -- except for their violence against apostates and women). Also, there's a reason that "Balkanized" is a word, and the more Balkanized a nation is, the more troubled it becomes. Near the end of the article:
Prime Minister Reinfeldt has acknowledged that Sweden's income disparities increased, but said it primarily occurred before he came to power in 2006, and that he remains proud of his country's liberal immigration policies. There has never been a society that has "won" on this. Not even the United States.
Reinfeldt said the transition can be trying, but he added: "We are more open than other countries. Long term, as a society, we win on this. It will lead to more people getting jobs. It will contribute to a more exciting and open society."
He's right about one thing, though. Swedish society is certainly getting more exciting.
Update: If I'd been trying to write parody, I couldn't have come up with this stuff. From Powerline:
The police are doing nothing to stop the riots:
”We go to the crime scenes, but when we get there we stand and wait,” elaborated Lars Byström, the media relations officer of the Stockholm Police Department. ”If we see a burning car, we let it burn if there is no risk of the fire spreading to other cars or buildings nearby. By doing so we minimize the risk of having rocks thrown at us.”But don't even think of violating parking laws in the midst of the chaos:
Swedish parking laws, however, continue to be rigidly enforced despite the increasingly chaotic situation. Early Wednesday, while documenting the destruction after a night of rioting in the Stockholm suburb of Alby, a reporter from Fria Tider observed a parking enforcement officer writing a ticket for a burnt-out Ford.
When questioned, the officer explained that the ticket was issued because the vehicle lacked a tag showing its time of arrival. The fact that the vehicle had been effectively destroyed – its windshield smashed and the interior heavily damaged by fire – was irrelevant according to the meter maid, who asked Fria Tider’s photographer to destroy the photos he had taken. This is insane. Behavior like this was once the province of Kafka novels and Monty Python sketches. To see it acted out in real life is just mind-boggling.
